Getting to know culture and religion of eastern christianity.
A trip to Łańcut and Jarosław.

On 1st April in the framework of Comenius project, implemented by our school, students from classes 2c of general secondary school and 2e of technical secondary school visited Łańcut and Jarosław. In Łańcut they took part in a museum lesson about religions of eastern christianity. They had the opportunity to see a collection of the Orthodox art, namely icons, fabrics, books, sculptures and handicrafts from the southern east of Poland. They also learned about the role of icons in the Orthodox church, the way they had been made and preserved. Later the students visited a stunning castle of Lubomirski and Potocki families with its impressive baroque and renaissance periods furnishings.

Another place visited by the students was a Greek Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Jarosław. This church is famous for its icon of St Mary of Jarosław, also called A Gate of Mercy. The students met a priest there and learned how the sacraments are administered in Eastern Orthodox rite. Last, but not least, the students walked along the charming streets of Jarosław old town and visited the convent of Benedictine nuns. During this trip students had the opportunity to get to know Eastern Orthodox church.
